What VNTYPL8 is

VNTYPL8 is a community site for finding vanity plates, guessing what they mean, and voting on other people's guesses. Anyone can read it. Posting requires an account.

You must be at least 13 years old to use VNTYPL8.

Your account

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account.

Give us accurate information when you sign up, and keep it current.

You can delete your account at any time. See the Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.

What you post

You keep ownership of what you post. By posting it you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store it, display it on the site, and show it in search results and link previews. That licence exists so we can run the site, and it ends when you remove the content, except where it is already part of a thread other people replied to.

Only post photos you took or otherwise have the right to post. Do not post someone else's photo as your own.

Post plates, not people. A plate on a car is fair game. Do not post anything that identifies the driver, do not post someone's home or workplace, and do not use the site to work out who a car belongs to or to follow someone around.

Rules

Do not post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, or designed to deceive. Do not impersonate anyone. Do not post spam or advertising.

Do not post personal information about anyone, whether yours or a stranger's. That includes names, addresses, phone numbers, and photographs of people.

Do not attack the site: no scraping at a scale that degrades it, no attempts to break authentication or reach other people's accounts, no automated posting, and no circumventing rate limits.

Guess in good faith. Voting rings, mass downvoting, and sockpuppet accounts spoil the one thing this site is for.

Moderation

We can remove any plate, guess, comment or photo, and suspend or delete any account, at our discretion — usually because something breaks the rules above, and sometimes because someone asked us to take down content about them.

We are not obliged to review everything that gets posted, and we do not endorse what people post. A guess on this site is a stranger's opinion about a licence plate, not a fact.

If something of yours was removed and you think that was wrong, use the contact form.

Our content

The VNTYPL8 name, design, and the code behind the site are ours. These terms do not give you the right to reuse them.

Plate designs shown on the site are our own drawings, approximating real plates for recognisability. They are not issued by, endorsed by, or affiliated with any state, province, or licensing authority.

No warranty, and what we owe you

VNTYPL8 is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise it will be available, correct, or free of bugs. Plate readings from photos are produced automatically and are frequently wrong; check them.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the site. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes and contact

We may change these terms. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page, and continuing to use the site means you accept the new version.
